Itinerary

The Marangu Route on Mount Kilimanjaro, known as the "Coca-Cola Route," is popular and accessible, making it suitable for less experienced climbers. It spans 5 to 6 days and covers approximately 64 kilometers (40 miles) round trip. Unique for its hut accommodations, it offers a more comfortable trekking experience.

Starting at Marangu Gate (1,870 meters/6,135 feet), the trail ascends through lush rainforest to Mandara Hut (2,720 meters/8,923 feet). It continues through moorlands to Horombo Hut (3,720 meters/12,205 feet), and then through alpine desert to Kibo Hut (4,703 meters/15,430 feet), the base for the final ascent.

The pre-dawn climb to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters/19,341 feet) is challenging, involving a steep path to Gilman's Point and then to the summit. The descent follows the same route, offering familiarity and ease.

The Marangu Route is ideal for those seeking a shorter, sociable, and scenic trek with the comfort of huts, though altitude sickness remains a risk.
