Beginning at Londorossi Gate (2,100 meters/6,890 feet), the route winds through pristine rainforest teeming with wildlife. As trekkers ascend, the vegetation transitions to heath and moorland, offering panoramic views of Kilimanjaro's western side.

Highlights include the Shira Plateau and the striking Shira Cathedral rock formation. The route merges with the Machame Route before reaching Barranco Camp (3,950 meters/12,960 feet), where trekkers tackle the iconic Barranco Wall.

The final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters/19,341 feet) begins from Barafu Camp (4,673 meters/15,331 feet) in the early hours of the morning. After summiting, trekkers descend via the Mweka Route, passing through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters/5,380 feet).
